Gelo Devices — EEG, PPG, MEMS, VR — for startups, developers, and researchers

The Gelo team developed a software complex that could see activating commands directly from user’s mental commands and transmit these commands to medical software. Control is carried out with flashing buttons on the screen that pop up over any existing medical program. To choose a relevant action, a surgeon should focus on the required button for as little as one second. It is important that this type of control keeps everything 100% sterile.

The solution was implemented with the Gelo Headband EEG device and software operating in the SSVEP paradigm.

This control technique is universal for all surgeons, it does not require training, and it does not consume focus and resource. Gelo is happy to share its developments and experience with the companies interested.

A neurophysiologist computer received data on the participants’ brain signals, electroencephalogram, from EEG headsets wirelessly. Then, the digital indexes obtained were uploaded to graphics software and transformed into a visual image, based on the pre-programmed algorithm. The experiment included 40 people. Everybody interested received a unique picture of their neurons activity visualized and a personalized NFT based on it.

Implemented together with Gelo Headband and the Capsule software, electroencephalograms of every participant were exported to .csv format and transferred to a 3D visualizer to be turned into graphics and further — NFTs.

A considerable experience of dealing with neurofeedback specialists from all over the world, as well as a deep understanding of neurophysiology allowed developers to make a free app with advanced algorithms adapting the training program for every user, depending on their personal advances.

The product operates with an EEG headband, similar to the Gelo Headband, based on biofeedback, within Unity-powered apps for iOS and Android.

The product is focused on aerospace industry, where demand for training services is expected to grow due to the need of personnel retraining for new aircraft types and renewal of service after the pandemic.

At the moment, there is a scientific base collected, and two stages of research conducted, including gathering data and testing an idea aimed at searching optimal algorithms for system operation. The research comprised 17 actual pilots performing training tasks on the Airbus-A320, Boeing-737, Cessna-C172, and TU-154 simulators. Analysis of the data obtained and development of the scope of work for the system prototype are in progress.

The product comprises aviation headset with the in-built EEG, HR, EMG sensors and apps to be installed on the instructor’s tablet. The neuroheadset monitors pilot’s physiological parameters real-time and transmits the data to the tablet wirelessly, simply and graphically demonstrating the parameters of the pilot’s functional state, including its shift from optimal one to overload and exhaustion. Based on additional data, instructor is able to change the training parameters and adapt them for each pilot, making the task more complex or easy. At this stage, the product is implemented on the Gelo Headband Pro neuroheadset, however, in future, the aviation headset will feature all required sensors.

Now the project is on the stage of the system prototype and attraction of partners for co-implementing pilot projects, testing technologies and adapting end product for the client’s needs. 

VR format and the need to focus on the card with an answer allowed teacher to keep students’ attention and immersion in learning process, which promoted the level of digesting new knowledge.

The app was powered by Unreal Engine 4, using the P300 paradigm. It operates on the stand-alone Gelo Impulse VR device, combining brain-computer interface and the Pico VR glasses.

A full-fledged VR video game was designed and implemented within this project. The game content is powered by Unreal Engine 4; the software part (brain-computer interface) was developed with C++ through the P300 paradigm.

Windows PC and Gelo Impulse VR helmet were used as hardware.

At the moment, the project is on hold, but the video game is available for demo and testing at the Gelo office.

The project team implemented several educating tests in biology and mathematics, where kids had to concentrate on their answer to go on. Teachers appreciated such classes, confirming the interest of students in this method of repeating material and the positive effect of faster knowledge acquisition.

The project was stopped, since it was difficult to integrate it in educational institutions on a large scale. Right now it is available for on-demand demonstrations.
